A GOOD LIFE ENDS


Mrs. Barbara Beissel, a well known resident of this city, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Hageman at Redondo Beach, CA., April 1, after a prolonged illness. Thus a long & useful life on this earth ended & an eternal home in heaven began, when she fell asleep to waken in a better world.


Miss Barbara Heberle was born Aug. 31, 1836, in Muensinger, Wurtemberg, GER. She came to America with her mother & sister when but 17 yrs of age, locating at St. Louis, where she was married to Peter Beissel, in 1855. The removed to Hastings in 1869, where they took up a residence. Mr. Beissel died in 1908. Mrs. Beissel remained here until 1918, when she went to Redondo Beach to live with her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Hageman. 12 children were born to her, 5 of whom are living, Mrs. Katherine Sieben, of this city, F. J. of Southwest City, MO., Mrs. G. F. Costello of Chicago, P. G. Beissel of Santa Ana, CA., J. W. Hageman of Redondo Beach, Ca. There are also 11 grandchildren, & 8 great grandchildren. Mrs. Beissel, was an earnest lifelong christian, & when the summons came was ready to to resign all earthly cares, fully assured that she would receive the welcome summons, "Well done thou good & faithful servant, enter into the joys of the Lord". She was a true & devoted wife & mother, whose life work was her children's care & happiness. Besides her loved ones, she leaves a sorrowing friends, to mourn her departure from their midst, who cannot pay too high a tribute to the memory of her kindly deeds, & admonitions. Her remains were forwarded to this city for interment, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Katherine Seiben, of this city & granddaughter Miss Mildred Wagner of Austin & taken to her grand daughter's residence Mrs. Earl Henry, W. 3rd St. A short service was held at the house.


The out of town relatives & friends were Mrs. Geo Costello, of Chicago, IL., John Beissel, Marie Beissel of St. Paul., Mrs. Mary Beissel & her family, M/M Dominick Wagner & family, Mrs. Swartz of Vermillion, Mrs. Agatha Landsberger, M/M Frank Landsberger, Mrs. Lena Kneifel of New Trier, Frank Beissel & family of Hampton. Fred Beissel of Douglas, N. G. Wagner, son & daughters [the latter are great grandchildren of the deceased].

She was a devout member of St. John's church of this city, form which place her funeral was held, the Rev. August Warnecke officiating. She was also a charter member of the Ladies' Society of this church.

The funeral was attended by a host of friends & the floral offerings were beautiful. The interment was in St. Boniface cemetery by the side of her husband.

The pallbearers were J. G. Sieben, John Heinen, John Pfleger, Henry Gleim, Otto Ackerman & F. W. Meyer.
