EUROPE
10.1 AUSTRIA (Major
language: German) c13 Heberles 2001.�� Dr Erwin Heberle-Bors (b Germany, to Jakob
Heberle of Rumania) has lived in Austria since about 1970.�� There have been Heberles in Austria in the
past.�� Anton Heberle� of Vienna was a music composer in the early
1800s.� He wrote music for flute =
recorder from 1807.��� Therese Heberle,
a ballet dancer, was born in Vienna in 1805, possibly the daughter of Anton.

Albe-Ville, Cleebourg, Dambach la Ville, Epfig, Falkwiller, Guebwiller,

Alsace and Lorraine area was part of the German (Holy Roman) Empire from around
1000, until about 1680, when it was taken by France.� �In 1871 it was annexed by
Germany from France, after the Franco-Prussian War, until returned to France in
1919, after World War I.�� About 95% of
the Heberles living elsewhere in France are believed to have ancestors from the
Alsace and Lorraine area.�� Probably
there were very few Heberles elsewhere in France before about 1680.�� Heberles were probably present in Alsace in
the 1500s but virtually all of the records before about 1600 have been
destroyed.�� The earliest Heberle

was recorded from Baranyah, in Austria-Hungary, now Hungary, in the 1891 census.
10.7 NETHERLANDS (Major
language Dutch) c36 Heberles 2001.�� Heberles may
have been in the Netherlands since the 1600s but the earliest Heberle record I
have seen is for 1796.�� I have some
data showing that in 1947 there were at least 28 Heberles living in nine
different cities in the Netherlands.��
At the present time there are some 36 Heberles in nine cities.�� At least one family migrated from
Wurttemburg in Germany to the Netherlands around 1966.��

10.9 ROUMANIA�� c3
Heberles 2001.�� Heberles lived in Roumania (previously part of
Austria-Hungary) in the past.�� Jakob Heberle lived in Jahrmakt, near
Timisoara, in west Rumania, up until World War II.�� His ancestors migrated there in the late 1700s, from the
Hunsruck area in Rhineland-Palatinate.�
Another Heberle family migrated from Mittelsbach in Rhineland-Palatinate
in 1830 and settled in Liebling in west Rumania, where their descendants lived
until 1944.�� In 1954, some of them
migrated to Montreal in Canada, probably via Germany.� Two Heberle craftsman or shop keepers were recorded from Temes,
in Austria-Hungary, now Roumania, in the 1891 census.�� In March 1999, Denis Heberle was the Deuxieme Secretaire to the
French Ambassador, in Bucharest, Roumania.
10.10 SLOVENIA (formerly
part of Yugoslavia) (Major languages: Slovenian, Croatian) c70 Heberles
2001.� The
Slovenian Heberles are thoughtbto be of German ancestry but might have migrated
via other nations, such as Austria-Hungary.��
Six Heberles are believed to have arrived in Slovenia (Jereko) from
Tirol (Austria) in 1911..�� At least 6
Heberle families lived in the capital, Ljubljana, in 1998.
10.11 SLOVAKIA (formerly part of Austria-Hungary)� One Heberle
craftsman or shop keeper was recorded from Szepes, in Hungary, now Slovakia, in
the 1891 census.
10.12 SPAIN (Major
language: Spanish) c3 Heberles 2001.�� Moacir Heberle of Brazil advised on
10.6.1997 that his brother Gastao lived in Ibiza, Spain.�� Weiler G Heberle lived in San Jose in 1998.
10.13 SWEDEN� �About 10 Heberles from the
Clausthal-Zellerfeld branch lived in Sweden in
the 1880s-1890s, including Ernst August Heberle and brother Josef. (Wieselgren and
Hildebrand, 1946).�� Josef died in Sala in 1912.� A few Heberles have lived in Sweden in recent years.
10.14 SWITZERLAND (Major
languages: German, French, Italian) c36 Heberles 2001.�� According to
World book data there are approximately 36 Heberles in Switzerland today.�� Much more common are the Haeberli and
Haeberlin families which can be traced back to at least 1341.�� There were possibly more Heberles in
Switzerland in the past.�� Some Heberles
are thought to have moved from Switzerland to France after the 30 years war
(1618-1648).�� The earliest Heberle
records I have seen are Amrisil (Thurgau) 1623, Zurich 1916, Tablat 1939,
Gerlikon 1947.
10.15 UNITED KINGDOM (Major

According to Burke�s Peerage data, no
Heberles lived in England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland in 1994.�� Heberles have lived there temporarily
during World War II and for study.��
Heberley and Habberley family members lived here in the 1800s and some
migrated to New Zealand (and U.S.A.?).��
Heberley could be Heberle anglicised.��
Albert Heberle (of Germany) was at Cambridge University during
1996-2000.� Patricia Heberle from
Australia is currently the England womens hockey coach.
10.16 UKRAINE (formerly
part of Russia, USSR) (Major language: Ukrainian) c3
Heberles 2001.�� Internet data shows
that some Heberles (maybe 20) and numerous Hepperles (over 100) lived in Ukraine
in the 1840-1914 period.�� Andreas
Heberle from Alpirsbach, Wurttemberg, migrated to Ukraine c1840.�� His decendants (at least 12) lived near
Odessa until 1945.�� At the end of World
War II they were forced to move further east, to Siberia, Kasakhstan, Tadgikistan,
Usbekistan.�� Frederick Heberle b 1841,
wife Barbara b 1843 and children, immigrated to Campbell County, South Dakota
USA in 1898, from Ukraine, probably from the Gueldendorf area, 16 km NNE of
Odessa.�� Some other Heberles migrated
to USA 1890 onwards.�� Internet data
shows that John Heberle (from USA ?) lived in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1996.
10.17 OTHER NATIONS
Northern
Europe The Haber group of surnames
occur in Denmark and Finland but no Heberles that I know of.
Eastern
Europe�� Before 1945, Heberles lived
in parts of Lithuania and Russia, which were once part of Germany, or
Austria-Hungary.�� Rudolf Heberle
(migrated to USA) lived in Lithuania in 1921 and in Konigsberg, East Prussia in
1923-26 (now Kalingrad, Russia).�� Ivana
Heberleinova lived in Praha, in the Czech republic in 1994.
Southern
Europe�� Therese Heberle, the ballet dancer from Austria, died in Naples,
Italy in 1840.�� There could be
some Heberles in Italy at present.�� One
Heberle was born in Cordenons, Italy in 1904.��
There are some Haberles in Serbia, but no Heberles that I know of.�� Jean-Claude Heberle of France was in Monte
Carlo, Monaco 1981-84.

(mainly to the south-east), including at least one Heberle family:Johann
Heberle b 1793 in Berus Saarland, Germany, migrated Sept 1828 with wife Johanna
and four children (Elisabeth b 1816, Nicolau b 1818, Pedro b 1820, Joao b 1824)
on the �Olbers� and arrived in Rio de Janeiro 17.12.1828, before settling in
Dois Irmaos, near Sao Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul State in March 1829.� The family settled in Dois Irmaos, Rio
Grande do Sul State, in 1829.�� Johann
died there in 1866, but some of his family, including Pedro Heberle (I) moved
to Estrela in about 1856.�� Pedro�s son
Pedro (II) had 17 children by 2 wives, in Estrela.�� Various descendents moved to Bom Retiro do Sul and Cruzeiro do
Sul in the early 1900s and Porto Alegre, Roca Salles and Lajeado within Rio
Grande do Sul State, during the 1930s.��
Other descendents probably moved into other southern Brazilian states,
during the early to mid 1800s.� Johannes
Ebri/Ebli (b c1815 Germany) migrated to Brazil c1840.� His descendents live in Brazil.�
Franz Joseph Heberle b 1880 Ulm (Rottenburg branch) migrated to Brazil

and Mrs Heberle.�� His son, born in
Sturgis, Michigan in 1825 spelt his name Hebrlee.�� Daniel H�berle (b 7.4.1826 Wansingen, Wurttemburg, Germany)
arrived in Canada in 1852 and settled initially in Rainham, Ontario, then
Mildmay.�� His 9 children and their
descendents used the name Heberle (Merritt, 1954).�� Johann Heberle (b 1904 Liebling Austria-Hungary, later Rumania)
and family migrated to Montreal in 1954, having left Liebling in 1944.

live in Merida, Mexico.
11.7 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
(Major language: English)�� c715 Heberles 2001.� My guess is that at least 270
Heberles have migrated to USA, including at least 230 from Germany, 14 from
France, 7 each from Switzerland and Ukraine, 2 from Canada, since about
1790.�� Most of the Heberle immigrants
arrived in USA during the 1850s (>50), 1860s (>24), 1870s (>24), 1880s
(>60) and 1890s (>28) and 1900-09 (>23). Many of the descendants must

Jean-Claude Heberle, a well known journalist, was born in 1935 in the
city of Constantine in the north east of Algeria.�� He lived in Algeria until 1961.�� The number of Heberles in Algeria may have reached a maximum of
about 20.�� The earliest Heberle records
I have seen are Blida 1955, Boghari 1943, Constantine 1879, Mostagnem 1940,
Philippeville 1875, Saida 1957.�� There
are no Heberles living in Algeria today.
12.2 CAMEROON (Major

missionary in Cameroon 1934-1959.�� He

He was assassinated by guerilla fighters in 1959.�� Brigitte Heberle was born in Douala in

(1990), a village cobbler (shoe repairer), named Hans Heberle (b 1597 d 1677)
recorded in his diary that he had to flee from his home in Ulm (in Bavaria
Germany) on 30 separate occasions, in the 1630s, during the thirty years war
(1618-1648).�� Two of his children, his
stepmother and three sisters were killed in 1634.
